Our story is not just a tale of two cities, it is a tale of 2 cousins. The first began in Atlanta, Georgia where a school administrator and mom of three was determined to share her New Orleans customs and unique Creole recipes at home with her children. Because New Orleans culture and food is intertwined, cooking was a good way to ensure that her kids knew their heritage despite living nearly 500 miles away from the Big Easy. Word spread about the exotic menu items that graced their table and soon her jambalaya, crawfish pies and seafood pastas became popular at graduation celebrations, office parties, showers, and holiday gatherings. With an estimated 70,000 New Orleanians remaining in the Atlanta area post Hurricane Katrina, there is a demand for Creole delights on party menus. Small Matter Atlanta was born to cater to intimate small events. Whether it’s red beans and rice or crawfish bread, our scrumptious classics delight and satisfy.
In Louisiana, our journey began in a Creole kitchen filled with love, laughter, and the irresistible aroma of home-cooked meals. Growing up in the Seventh Ward of New Orleans, we were surrounded by the rich flavors and traditions of Creole cuisine. Our grandmother, a proud member of a long line of stellar cooks, made food her life’s work—cooking for St. David Catholic School in the Lower Ninth Ward and supporting the community through countless fundraising suppers. I still remember her lemon meringue pies, made in her cousin Leah Chase’s kitchen at Dooky Chase’s Restaurant, helping to raise money for the Ebony Fashion Fair in the early ’70s.
From a young age, I was captivated not just by the taste of her food, but by the joy it brought to everyone around her table. That joy, that spirit of togetherness and celebration, is what I inherited along with her love for cooking and entertaining. Hosting my own parties and catering them myself became second nature. Then one day, a friend asked me to cater her wedding. Word spread quickly, and before I knew it, more people were asking for my food at their events.
